Hubere - Huber - Hoover
Definition: Hoover is the English form of the German name Huber, meaning "a large measure of land" or "a man who owns a hube (a 30-60 acre parcel of land)," from the Middle High German "huober."
HOOVER ANCESTRY
http://www.fivehoovers.com/Narratives.htm

This family is probably descended from one Bertoldus Hubere (aka Bar Hubere), born about 1190, a younger son of a minor landed knight of the baron of Switzerland. Bertoldus was a citizen of Bern, and his name appears frequently in official documents of that city. He had at least three sons – Nicolaus (1218) , Burchard Dictus Hubere (1222-1258), and Jacob (1230). All were citizens of the Canton of Bern. Nicolaus was a Consul of the capital city of Bern.. Burchard Hubere acquired land in the present Canton Aargau, Switzerland, largely in the County of Lenzberg, in the vicinity of Oberkulm.
The Aargau is a canton comprising 1405 square kilometers in north-central Switzerland, bordered on the north by Germany (state of Baden-Württemberg), on the west by the cantons of Baselland, Solothurn and Bern, on the south by the canton of Lucerne and on the east by the cantons of Zürich and Zug. Its capital is at Aarau.
Georg Huber, descendant of Burchard, was deputy sheriff at Lenzburg in 1641, and miller at Oberkulm. His old mill, on the Yynen, known as the Neuenstein, was converted it into an inn, the Gasthaus zum Baeren, by a descendant of Georg Huber.

Schloss Lenzburg castle is situated on top of a hill between Aarau and Baden and above the old part of
town of Lenzburg in the Canton of Aargau, Switzerland. Around 1415, the Lenzburg Castle became a
Bernese bailiff's residence as Lenzburg fell to a Bernese seize and was owned by the City of Berne from
1415 to 1798. Today, the castle houses the famed museum Canton Aargau and conference center.

On October 24, 1811, Peter Hoover, a resident at that time of Montgomery County, Ohio registered at the Cincinnati Land Office pre-emptive title to land in Section 3, Township 16, Range XIII in a tract known ad that "East and North of the Second Principal Meridian" of the Indiana Territory. On the same day, his brother Henry obtained land in the same section (Section 3)of the same township (T16R13). This apparently was in what is now Clark County as on June 17, 1834 Peter Hoover of Clark County, Indiana obtained land in Section 12, Township 17, Range I of the Indiana Survey that included several present counties including Randolph. This is where the section was located as Cincinnati Land Officer records indicate that the following year, on August 15, 1835, "Peter Hoover, Jr." of Randolph County also purchased land in this section. His brother Henry purchased additional land in this section (Section 3) the following month, on November 8th, as well as land in Section 10 of this township. The three purchases in Section 3 suggest that Henry and Peter had obtained title to most, if not all, of the 640 acres of this section located in what is now Clay Township, Wayne County, Indiana.
According to the history of Clay Township in the History of Wayne County, Indiana (pg 197), "Henry Hoover settled early on the east side of Green's Fork; land now owned by the widow of his son Andrew, their son John, and Perry Wilson. Peter Hoover, brother of Henry, bought west and adjoining land ; now owned by the widow of his son Emsley, and their son Owen P. Hoover, and Henry T. Bond."
